It is with regret that announcement is made of the deaths of numerous
firefighters and officers of the FDNY on Tuesday September 11, 2001
at the World Trade Center holocaust along with other
emergency service workers and countless civilians.
The Vulcan Society offers its sincere sympathy to the victims, and their families and loved ones.
Both twin towers involved in pancake collapse after failure of supports due to extremely high heat conditions and planes ripping into the structures
Latest count, almost 3000 confirmed missing or dead, including 341 firefighters, 2 members assigned to EMS and one member of the Fire Patrol.
The bodies of firefighters and civilians are pulled out of the rubble every day. The scene is surreal with an army of fire and police personnel, soldiers and red cross workers against a backdrop of construction workers dismantling what's left of the World Trade Center. Block after block of devastation replaces a once vibrant section of Manhattan's lower west side. NYPD, Nassau County and US Coast Guard boats fill the docking area. FDNY's largest fireboats pumped hard and long the first few days.
