It is with regret announcement is made of the death of retired member Charles Williams (Ladder 111)
which occurred on July 10, 2018
Yesterday (July 28, 2018), Brother Charlie Williams was laid to rest.
It was one of the most emotional and gratifying services I've attended in some time.
Brother Williams was laid to rest with full honors by the FDNY as a September 11th WTC Casualty.
Big Charlie was a second generation Firefighter at L-111 located in the Heart of Bed-Sty Brooklyn, following in his Father's footsteps who was also assigned to the "Nut House Truck" as they refer to themselves.
Brother Williams was also a proud Veteran having served in Vietnam with the Army, and Desert Storm as a Master Sargent with the Air Force Reserve.
As his Funeral procession turned onto Fulton Street, the Main Street of Bed-Sty Brooklyn, lead by a Tower Ladder, followed by the FDNY Emerald Society Bagpipe Band, and a pumper bearing the Casket of Big Charlie, I could not help but think of the many times he drove L-111's Rig down this iconic Street responding with Air Horns Pumping on their way to a job.
It was a fitting tribute to a REALLY GOOD BROTHER who deserved nothing less.
Rest in Peace Big Charlie, you will be missed.
