The Vulcanettes is an organization comprised of Wives, Widows, and Daughters of Vulcan members. Nearly 50 years ago these women formed the better-half of the Vulcan Society. They participated in charitable works, community outreach and scholarship funds. However, it was their comfort and support that proved to be their most valuable purpose. The 23rd street fire took the lives of three Vulcan members. It was the Vulcanettes, assuredly, who came to the aide of those grieving wives and children like only fellow wives could do. The towers fell some 25 years later. This time twelve members' families were in desperate need of comfort. The Vulcanettes did not hesitate to jump into service during this dreadful time either.
In between the grief and comfort were picnics, BBQ's, parties and dances. The bonds cemented then seem to be securely in place today amongst our retirees. Hopefully we too can return to a time when the whole family participated in the Black fire lifestyle.
The Vulcanettes will be starting a membership drive soon,,,check for future communications. Married members will be encouraged to share this opportunity with their wives and daughters.
The following members are memorialized:
